President’s Message
Spring is here, and for Hines Charity for Theological Education that means our time for fellowship, learning, mission and celebration encouraging our community for the work of Christ. This year our fundraising activities will be planned to fulfill the second pillar of our Charity’s mission in support of the advancement of Missions. Our recipients this year will be the Youth Missionaries of Mt. Rose Church Of God In Christ as they prepare to travel to Tasmania. Combining our resources and influence in our fundraising initiatives will ensure that the mission group will have what is needed to continue the work of Christ. It is such a joy to know that H.C.T.E joins others around the world striving to serve people and bring Glory to God. Our collective purpose and dedication will make the difference. Let’s work closely to make 2025 another stellar year in H.C.T.E history. Together we can do the EXTRAORDINARY!

Now You Know
The Early Years of Dr. Allen Joseph Hines 1923 - 1984
Sergeant Allen J. Hines | United States Army
• 45th Engineers Company B
• May 1941 - August 1945
The legacy of Dr. Allen J. Hines mirrors years of passion for evangelism,
education, church growth, and community. But, did you know, before he began
ministry, he served in the U. S. Army? In 1941, at the age of 18, he followed the
path of his older brother Lanzy Hines to join the U.S. Army. He served in China,
Burma, and India rising to the rank of Sergeant of Engineering. He received an
Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army in 1945. His brother Lanzy Hines
retired with an outstanding career over 40 years ranking as a Master Sergeant.
The Hines armed services legacy continued with Dr. Hines’ nephew Lanzy Hines,
Jr., serving in the U. S. Navy retiring as a First Class Petty Officer. Dr. Hines
later answered the call to service in the “Army of the Lord” comparatively to Peter once a fisherman becoming a “fisher of men” (Matt. 4:19). Throughout his life Dr. Hines traded his weapons to destroy for weapons to build, as a soldier in the Army of the Lord.
